Italy remains Europe's biggest artisanal gelato consumer, with over 600 million portions sold in 2024, accounting for 26.4% of the continental market, ahead of Germany (25.1%) and Spain (20.6%). This dominant position strengthens the international appeal of Made in Italy, driven by a supply chain worth €4.5 billion and employing 120,000 people. Italian gelato exports are increasing: between 2023 and 2024, the sector had a 10.8% gain, surpassing €387 million. Germany, France, Spain, and the United States drive export sales, accounting for the majority of the 100 million kg exported (up 19% from 2023). Ingredients and semi-finished products (€1.1 billion in revenue, 67% of which is exported) and gelato machines (€670 million, +3%) round out the supply chain. The 65th International Gelato Exhibition (MIG) will take place in Longarone (BL) from November 30 to December 3. This year's new addition is the VEGANOK EXPO, which is dedicated to plant-based and sustainable gelato in line with current trends. In 2024, the event drew 10,000 people from 31 countries, confirming itself as a strategic platform for exporting Italian confectionery.
