A new season of tests is scheduled in the Veneto Dolomites near the Trentino border for the "LoRa Snow" project, which intends to create wireless technology for rescuing individuals missing in avalanches. The National Research Council (CNR) is leading the project, which intends to investigate the usefulness of various wireless technologies for search and rescue, as well as produce a portable, low-power prototype that can be integrated into drones. Using this prototype, rescue teams will be able to locate people buried by avalanches quickly and from a great distance. In these instances, time is critical: there is a good chance of finding a person alive buried under the snow in the first 15 minutes, but this probability decreases fast after that, as the air pocket available to the buried person shrinks quickly. It is consequently critical to shorten the time required to find a person.
