Giulia Barone, an internationally recognized paleographer and scholar of medieval religiosity and sanctity, died in Rome at the age of 78. Barone, who was born in Milan, left a substantial and authoritative body of work primarily dedicated to the history of medieval Christianity, sanctity, religious life forms, and Rome's social and political reality between the 11th and 15th centuries. Barone, a Medieval History professor at Sapienza University's Faculty of Letters, made a significant contribution to the instruction of subsequent generations of historians. Giulia Barone provided novel insights of medieval Roman society, the role of religious organizations, and masculine and female spirituality.
