“We are satisfied with the results so far: the market is ready to welcome our apples,” said Klaus Holzl, Head of Sales at VOG, the South Tyrolean fruit growers’ cooperative, as harvest season begins for its 4,000 members. According to forecasts presented at the Prognosfruit conference, Italy’s 2025 apple production is expected to reach 2.2 million tons, down 3% from last year. About half will come from South Tyrol, with another 500,000 tons from Trentino. As for the fresh market, the coming months will be decisive, but supply of high-quality fruit is expected to last for at least a year. Both traditional varieties, like Gala and Granny Smith, and newer ones will be available. This year also marks VOG’s 80th anniversary, “a history of innovation and cooperation,” said General Manager Walter Pardatscher. “Our commitment is to stay vigilant and face future challenges with confidence.” The first brand to hit the shelves with the new harvest will be Marlene, starting with Gala. In autumn, varieties such as SweeTango, Kanzi, Envy, and Pink Lady will follow, joined later by Cosmic Crisp, Giga, and RedPop. Export remains vital, with Germany and Spain as key markets.
