Negative perceptions of the EU’s role stand at 14% in Italy and 18% overall. The majority of Europeans polled feel the EU should have a larger role in protecting its citizens from global crises and security threats (68%). Nearly all citizens (90%) want EU member states to be more united, and more than three-quarters say the EU requires greater resources to solve current global concerns (77%). The ratio jumps to 85% among Italian responders.
