Carlo Acutis (1991–2006) and Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901–1925) were declared Saints during a heartfelt and well-attended ceremony in St. Peter’s Square. Acutis and Frassati, both of whom died young, are great examples of faith for our day. Carlo Acutis, already known as the patron saint of the Internet, conveyed his spirituality through digital language, whereas Pier Giorgio Frassati did so through his commitment to social issues. Pope Leo XIV stated the canonization formula in Latin: "We declare and define Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis as Saints", said Leo, "and we register them in the List of Saints, establishing that throughout the Church, they are to be devoutly honored among the Saints". Following the pronouncement, which was met with thunderous acclaim in the Piazza, a procession led to the altar to venerate the relics: a fragment of Carlo Acutis' heart and a piece of Pier Giorgio Frassati's robe. More than 70,000 people gathered in St. Peter's Square yesterday. Sergio Mattarella, the president of the Republic, was also in attendance.
