About a hundred are in Sardinia, at a resort in Santa Teresa di Gallura, while others have been reported in the Marche region. According to some Italian media, numerous places in Italy are now housing Israeli soldiers from the IDF involved in operations in Gaza for mandated psychological "decompression" holidays before returning to the front lines. And controversy — social and political — has exploded. This has already led to a parliamentary initiative. Two opposition MPs, including the president of the Israel-Palestine Friendship Intergroup, which has organized numerous support initiatives in Gaza, have submitted an urgent parliamentary question in order to "ask the government how the regular presence of such soldiers on holiday on our soil to take a break from the genocide they are committing is possible". According to M5S opposition MP Stefania Ascari, “for the entire stay they are being protected by DIGOS agents and housed in luxury resorts. Are there any agreements between the Italian government and the terrorist state of Israel? Is anyone protecting them? Hosting these soldiers, who have been convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity and for which the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants against the individuals who ordered them, is an extremely severe matter. Furthermore, we are cleaning our consciences by admitting youngsters from Gaza to our hospitals who were left on the verge of death by those same soldiers. We demand answers, and they must arrive immediately". In Sardinia, the activist group “Lungoni for Palestine” protested outside the resort demanding “an end to silence and complicity with those committing genocide".
