At the “Guglielmo Marconi” technical and commercial institute in Penne (Pescara), a new regulation introduced by headteacher Angela Pizzi has triggered debate. The circular requires parental signatures to justify absences, tardiness, or early departures—even for students who are already 18 or older.
The measure, presented by the principal as a matter of oversight and responsibility, has quickly drawn strong criticism from several families. Parents argue that the rule clashes with existing law, since students who reach adulthood are legally entitled to handle their own attendance records.
A group of parents opposing the policy has labeled it “illegitimate and unconstitutional,” urging the headteacher to withdraw the circular within a week before considering formal action.
It remains unclear whether the school administration will reconsider. Meanwhile, the dispute has spread beyond the local level, fueling regional discussion among students, parents, and education representatives.
