Covid is gaining traction again. In the most recent week, 2,052 new cases were reported in Italy, the highest number in 2025, representing a 47% increase over the previous week. There were 8 deaths, compared to ten in the previous survey. The number of swabs is also increasing: 27,891 were performed between August 28 and September 3, up from 17,942 the previous week. This is according to the latest Ministry of Health report. We are clearly a long way from pandemic numbers, but the 2025 record cannot be disregarded, especially given the fall season ahead. Hospitalization and mortality rates remain higher in older age groups, as they were during the epidemic years.
