The dolphin mascot of the XX Mediterranean Games – Taranto 2026 becomes a sculpture thanks to Vincent’s art. "This work represents my personal contribution to a major international event involving my beloved Italy, and especially my homeland, Puglia." These are the words used by contemporary artist Vincenzo De Cillis, alias Vincent, to describe the sculpture of Ionios, the 2026 Mediterranean Games dolphin mascot. In 2026, Taranto will host an international sporting event that will showcase participants from more than twenty Mediterranean-bordering countries. The dolphin has been selected as the event's symbol, as it is symbolic of the city's relationship with the Mediterranean. Vincent, a native of that region, finds the sculpture particularly meaningful: "My roots are just a few kilometers from Taranto, and being able to contribute as an artist to this event, to my homeland, and to Italian sport, was the guiding spirit behind this creation". Vincent, born in 1984, conducts a personal investigation in which he reimagines contemporary icons and delivers them to the public in a new shape using a language that combines pop culture, irony, and almost compulsive craftsmanship. The work dedicated to Ionios is not just a tribute to his city, but also a universal message. "I believe that art has the potential to build bridges across nations. My work has been seen by international clients and galleries. Both art and athletics help to break down language, cultural, and religious barriers, reminding us that a more united and inclusive society is possible".
