At 79, Franco Ligas has passed away, a face and voice that for decades accompanied sports lovers. Born in Oristano in 1946, he had a Sardinian accent and a bottomless love of sports, from soccer to boxing, horse racing to cycling. Ligas began his career in the 1970s as a correspondent for TeleLibera Firenze, covering Fiorentina and boxing. He then joined Mediaset in 1984. From then until 2013, he was a well-known member of the sports editorial team, able to find a balance between expertise and humor. While he always claimed to be "more of a fan than a great journalist", his straightforward and open attitude earned him respect from colleagues and admirers. Two teams were important to his heart: Cagliari, "because I'm Sardinian and because I played there as a boy", and Fiorentina, the city that had adopted him and where his son was born. After retiring, he continued to cover sports. With him goes a unique voice, able to unite passion, expertise, and lightness, leaving an indelible mark on Italian sports journalism.
