From October 18 to 26, at the historic Fortezza da Basso in Florence, the 15th edition of the Florence Biennale will host the unprecedented solo exhibition ‘Tim Burton: Light and Darkness’. The exhibition was created and realized in conjunction with the renowned American artist and director, one of the most distinctive and recognizable voices in contemporary cinema and imagery. The show was created expressly for the Florence Biennale and directly addresses this edition's major theme, ‘The Sublime Essence of Light and Darkness: Concepts of Dualism and Unity in Contemporary Art and Design’. The exhibition's title, chosen by Burton himself, reflects the dialectical tension that runs throughout his work: the confluence of brightness and dark, irony and melancholy, dream and nightmare. The exhibition includes approximately fifty paintings distributed across five rooms. Some of these pieces were chosen from the traveling exhibition project ‘The World of Tim Burton’, which has brought fans from all over the world to the director's lesser-known side over the years, while others are fresh and exclusive creations.
