The tragedy of American MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk, who was shot and died during a public meeting, continues to fuel the Italian political discourse. The episode isn't just an American tragedy: in Italy, it has turned into political controversy. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni uses it as proof of the “double standards” on the left, while the opposition turns the accusation back on her, pinning her down on her rhetoric. Family Minister Eugenia Roccella adds fuel to the fire: "Charlie Kirk's murder has sparked a massive political and emotional response around the world, particularly in the United States and England. This has not occurred in Italy, where many have lashed out against the victim using the most classic form of secondary victimization: he brought it on himself", said the Fratelli d’Italia member of the government, speaking on September 17 in the Chamber of Deputies. Responses from the other political side did not take long. Matteo Renzi, leader of Italia Viva, 'advises' Prime Minister Meloni: "Muzzle the pitbulls around you”.
