On September 15, a team of Italian and Greek archaeologists and restorers, which was established in response to the mission of the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, to Athens on June 19, began the study and restoration of a substantial selection of artifacts. An agreement was formed to facilitate the cross-restitution of archaeological finds from illegal excavations. These largely involve attic-made red-figure vases. Scientific conclusions are expected to lead to the definitive return of the antiquities to Italy and Greece, respectively, based on their origin. On the Italian side, eight specialists—archaeologists and restorers—are part of the Italo-Greek commission of experts, and they will work together with their Greek colleagues at the National Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
