In the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's murder, the Interior Ministry issued a circular that mandated the review and potential enhancement of protective measures for critical institutional officials. According to government sources, security measures have been reinforced around Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the two Deputy Prime Ministers, Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini. The degree of protection has been upped to "exceptional", requiring the employment of two or three armored cars, each with three officers. Tajani and Salvini, who had previously chosen for a second-level security measure, joined the prime minister at a public event escorted by a considerably bigger force: at least six officers surrounded Meloni, with a seventh carrying a briefcase containing a bulletproof sheet. Tajani advocated for a tone-down approach to the situation, asserting that "we must employ alternative language to prevent the escalation of emotions. The extra defensive measures show that the climate is not ideal, but I continue not to offend anyone. I invite everyone to do the same".
