After the reform on the separation of careers between prosecutors and judges was approved, the Chamber of Deputies turned into chaos. While the majority rejoices, the opposition benches raise their voices in protest: "It is all indecent". The environment quickly heats up, almost escalating into a fight. The majority's applause following the vote infuriated the Democratic Party: "The government", says Democrat Chiara Braga, "should stand up and respond to what we've been asking for days, about what's happening in Gaza, instead of creating this pathetic scene in which even the Foreign Minister has been involved". The chief of Italian diplomacy defends himself: "I never applauded and said nothing. It all seems pretextual to me". Although the session was briefly suspended by Deputy Speaker Sergio Costa due to the brawl in the Chamber, tensions persisted in the aftermath. The opposition was unwilling to resume proceedings in the absence of official announcements from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and a vote by the Assembly on the ongoing situation in Gaza. The next item on the agenda, establishing a Saint Francis holiday, was postponed to Tuesday, September 23.
