Manila, September 18 – No surprises: the men's national volleyball team defeated Ukraine 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-18) to advance to the World Championships round of 16. On Sunday, the 21st, the Azzurri will face Argentina, the top team in Group C. Coach De Giorgi relied on Giannelli as setter, with Romanò as opposite, Michieletto and Bottolo as outside hitters, Gargiulo and Russo in the middle, and Balaso as libero. On the other side, Lozano fielded Synytsia as setter, Tupchii opposite, Drodz and Semeniuk as middles, Yanchuk and Kovalov as outside hitters, and Boiko as libero. The first set was balanced until 14-14, then Italy pulled ahead thanks especially to Russo, precise in attack (75%), well served by Giannelli. Romanò and Bottolo contributed to the set with 5 and 4 points, respectively. The match remained close until 23-22 in the second set, but Michieletto sealed it with a winning attack and a block for 25-22. The Italians demonstrated solidity in critical situations, effective blocking (3 successes), and an incisive attack with a 58% team percentage. The third set had no story: Italy started strong, always stayed in control, and closed 25-18, sealing a clear and deserved victory.
