Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni declared at the UN General Assembly that her country will introduce a motion to recognize the State of Palestine. The decision, however, will be contingent on two particular conditions: the release of the hostages and Hamas' exclusion from any political involvement in the Gaza Strip. "I am not opposed to recognition", Meloni clarified, "but we must establish priorities. I hope that our viewpoint will be supported by the opposition and all reasonable people". The two-state solution remains Italy's primary objective, according to Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, despite the absence of immediate recognition.
