Last week, the mobilization of Ravenna dockworkers convinced the city government to block the loading of two containers of explosives bound for Israel. The mayor of the city stated that it is impossible to continue to ignore the inhumane nature of contributing to the genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army's indiscriminate bombardment of the Gaza Strip has heightened awareness of this trafficking. In numerous Italian cities, dockworkers, who are responsible for the unloading and loading of cargo from ships, have encountered weapons and ammunition cargoes and have refused even to touch them. Civil disobedience operations began in Genoa and spread to Livorno, Ravenna, Salerno, and other Italian ports. The dockworkers have invoked Law 185, which prevents Italy from exporting arms to warring countries or violating international accords.
