Fake traffic fines are becoming increasingly prevalent in Italy. The documents appear authentic: violation number, reference to an article of the traffic code, license plate, name of the reporting officer, even a QR code for payment. At first glance, they appear to be genuine documents, affixed to the rear window of the vehicle or placed beneath the windshield wiper. However, they are in fact counterfeit tickets. And the money is not directed to the municipality; rather, they are transferred to the scammer's credit card. Reports of such fines in Italian cities have risen in recent weeks. First reported in Catania, the scam has now reached Florence. Hundreds of complaints have already been filed. The challenge now is to instruct drivers how to spot fake tickets. It is critical to verify that the information provided is correct: license plate number, model, exact location of the violation, date, and time. Always be aware of bank accounts owned by unknown individuals or companies.
