The 42-vessel Global Sumud Flotilla has departed the coast of Crete and is currently in international waters, en route to the Gaza Strip. According to the organizers, the fleet might arrive within a week. "We are about 350 miles from Gaza, three or four days of sailing", stated PD MEP Annalisa Corrado from the vessel. Meanwhile, the movement's delegation met with Defense Minister Guido Crosetto in Rome. The minister voiced deep worry about the risks of attempting to breach the naval blockade, reiterating the government's commitment to protecting Italian activists and encouraging safer humanitarian routes. In a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also addressed the Middle East crisis and the necessity of effective solutions. Maria Elena Delia, the spokesperson for the flotilla, affirmed the organization's intention to persist with the mission, which she characterized as an "action of solidarity" that was designed to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. The movement has sparked international interest, with celebrities such as Richard Gere expressing solidarity: "Those who perform altruistic actions deserve our support", the actor stated.
