Sicilian by origin but a citizen of the world, Pasquale Pistorio, internationally renowned manager, has died at the age of 89. He changed the history of the Italian and European technological industries by transforming SGS-Thomson into STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor giant headquartered in Agrate Brianza. Pistorio had an international career at Motorola before returning to Italy in the 1980s to take the helm of SGS. With his managerial and strategic vision, the manager—born in Agira, in the province of Enna, and with a degree in electronic engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin—was able to build a company capable of competing with global powers while also focusing on the revitalization of the Catania plant and the development of what would become the Etna Valley. At STMicroelectronics, he advocated an industrial model focused on innovation, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability, while paying close attention to the surrounding community and its residents.
