The Italian agri-food sector has achieved a historic milestone: exports surpassed €70 billion for the first time, totaling €70.7 billion between June 2024 and May 2025. This nearly doubles the €37 billion generated in 2015 and demonstrates Made in Italy's ability to thrive on worldwide markets through quality, innovation, and tradition. Based on Istat data, the Edison Foundation's calculations indicate that aggregate exports increased by 5.6% in the first five months of 2025 when compared to the same period in 2024. Agriculture gained 9.4% (€4.4 billion), while the food and beverage sector increased by 5% to €25.7 billion. Italy is the world's largest exporter of pasta ($4.7 billion), tomato products ($3.2 billion), hams ($1.3 billion), vermouth ($291 million), vinegars ($394 million), and apples ($1.1 billion). It is the world's second-largest cheese exporter, valued at $5.8 billion, trailing only Germany ($6.7 billion). Italy is the world's second-largest wine exporter, valued at $8.8 billion, following France ($12.7 billion). Italy is also the world's second-largest producer of roasted coffee, worth $2.2 billion, trailing only Switzerland, which trades rather than produces coffee.
