Chinese vehicles are dominating the Italian market. Their presence is becoming increasingly evident, also thanks to major communication campaigns and marketing initiatives: for example, partnerships with Serie A football teams (Byd with Inter and Omoda&Jaecoo with Fiorentina) or their strong presence at the Turin Auto Show. The most recent wave of arrivals on the Italian market has introduced several new names to the already known businesses. Thus, the now-well-known automobile manufacturers MG, part of the SAIC group, and BYD have been steadily joined by Leapmotor (connected to Stellantis), Lepas (a new Chery brand), Dongfeng (also active with the Voyah and MHero brands), Geely, Xpeng, and the tech company Xiaomi. MG is the unchallenged frontrunner in the lengthy march to win over Italian customers. Thanks to a variety of technological solutions—gasoline, hybrid, and electric propulsion—MG sold 35,295 vehicles in Italy in the first eight months of this year, representing a 32.6% increase over the same period in 2024 and a market share of 3.4%, putting it on par with the already established Korean manufacturers (Unrae data). Corriere della Sera counted as many as 21 new brands — mostly Chinese — that entered Italy between 2021 and 2025, destined to become 29 by 2028. Their product line focuses on medium and large SUVs, as well as electric and plug-in hybrid propulsion systems.
