Sapienza University of Rome approved a policy of significant social significance: beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year, tuition fees for all programs, including undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees, will be waived for victims of gender-based violence and orphans of femicide. Only the €30 fixed fee, which has already been made available to other vulnerable groups, will remain. "This decision", stated Rector Antonella Polimeni, "is intended to provide women and girls who have been victims of violence with the opportunity to study, thereby providing them with tangible resources to rebuild their lives and achieve emancipation. It is a commitment to truly open the university's doors to individuals who regard education as a chance for redemption and rebirth". In order to qualify for the benefit, students must submit an application to the Student Office and include a certification issued by anti-violence centers or social services. The Confidential Counselor will review the documentation, and the benefit will be valid for the duration of the course of study, plus an additional year beyond the specified length. The initiative is part of a broader path already undertaken by Sapienza to support vulnerable people, which includes the Anti-Violence Center with the Lazio Region, the Gender Equality Plan, the Code of Conduct against sexual harassment, the alias career regulation, and the activities of the Single Guarantee Committee.
