In Italy, almost everyone recognizes the importance of leading a healthy life, but only six out of ten actually manage to follow balanced habits. This is according to the STADA Health Report 2025, a poll undertaken in 22 European nations with over 27,000 participants, including 2,000 Italians. The gap between awareness and action remains wide: four out of ten Italians fail to put good intentions into practice on a daily basis, mostly due to a lack of motivation (39%), time (36%), and financial resources (29%). Psychological factors, including stress and loneliness, also contribute to the adverse effects on the capacity to maintain an active lifestyle or adopt preventive measures. In terms of mental health, 30% of people interviewed reported having mental health concerns, while only 8% received therapeutic support. High expenses, uncertainties regarding effectiveness, and emotional hurdles remain the primary impediments. Prevention is improving: screening participation has increased from 57% to 68% in the last two years, with women driving this rise. However, a third of Italians continue to neglect medical exams, frequently due to financial constraints or a lack of information. Confidence in the national healthcare system is at 48%, unchanged from 2024 but below than the European average (58%). Relationships with general practitioners and pharmacists, who serve more than half of the population, remain strong. Finally, there is a noticeable increase in the acceptance of technology: 43% of Italians are ready to use artificial intelligence for medical consultations, as they are attracted to its consistent availability and time-saving capabilities. Nevertheless, the conviction that the human element is essential persists.
