Radia, the American company that is set to construct the WindRunner - the world's largest cargo aircraft designed to transport wind turbines and defense equipment - intends to establish a facility in Grottaglie (Taranto) for the final assembly and the provision of structural engineering, fuselage, and landing gear. Three regions are involved: Puglia and Campania for production and manufacturing, and Calabria for professional growth. Radia Italia CEO Giuseppe Giordo presented the project's specifics on Tuesday in Taranto, and it appears to have a tight timeframe. "We would like to start investing in January 2026 because the aircraft is expected to fly in 2029. First delivery in 2030 and certification in 2031. Over the next fifteen years, we anticipate to manufacture around 150 aircraft". Giordo discusses the project's "several billions of investment" and the 4,000 individuals involved in it. Of these, 1,000-1,200 will be employed at the new Grottaglie site, where a 44-hectare area has already been designated, “close to the airport, which we will use for WindRunner take-offs".
