A week after the City Council approved the sale of the Meazza Stadium to Inter and Milan, Milan Mayor Beppe Sala addressed the potential name of the new stadium. “The choice is up to the clubs, and naming rights or sponsorships are not excluded, as happens across Europe and the world,” Sala said during celebrations for the 165th anniversary of the local police. “I’ve never been able to call it Meazza; out of respect for Meazza, I personally like San Siro — that’s just my experience as a fan.” Sala stressed that bureaucratic matters must be finalized before considering the name. “As mayor, I don’t need to add a single word. There’s still work to do. I spoke with the notary to ensure the deed could be completed by November 10, which is possible, but work remains.” The debate over the stadium’s name continues as Inter and Milan proceed toward finalizing the purchase in the coming weeks.
