The Municipality of Siena has won the European award for the environmental sustainability policies and standards it has adopted, at a ceremony held in Vilnius, Lithuania. The jury was impressed by the city's separate waste collection rate (61%) and landfill waste reduction target, which are completely compliant with European Directives. Presenting the candidacy and receiving the award was also Sei Toscana, whose CEO Salvatore Cappello participated in the delegation presenting the project and discussing it before the jury, chaired by Patrick Child of the European Commission’s Environment Directorate. Among the topics discussed was the current reorganization of waste collection services in Siena, for which Salvatore Cappello outlined the methods, results, and objectives, including the waste management system, which—thanks to Iren Group companies—ensures the implementation of a circular economy aimed at recycling and material recovery.
