The number of charge sites for electric vehicles placed on highways has nearly quadrupled in two years, from 657 to 1,159, while the total (roads and motorways) has climbed from 56,992 in June 2024 to 67,561 in the same month of 2025. The trend is steadily increasing, with more than 70,000 charging points expected by the end of the year. In short, while the danger of running out of energy in Italy has not gone away entirely (certain challenges persist in the south), it is now more manageable. Charging speeds have also increased dramatically. On highways, not only are 85% of the charging stations fast (i.e., DC), but 62% are ultra-fast (HPC) with power exceeding 150 kilowatts. Today, thanks to increasingly advanced electric cars and lowering prices (new government incentives are also on the horizon), it is possible to not only travel more than 500 kilometers but also refill in a matter of minutes. The good news for electric vehicle drivers does not end there: 45% of service areas, including gas and diesel stations, now have electric charging facilities.
