During the excavations for the construction of a gas pipeline in the municipality of Atri (Teramo), an important archaeological discovery has been made.. So far, ten tombs have been discovered, with grave items dating from 850 to 750 BC. Some of these stand out because they include evidence of a burial mound composed of river pebbles with a circumference ranging from 7 to 15 meters, a burial custom common in Abruzzo during the Iron Age period. The burials are largely of adults, both male and female, however children aged zero to two years old were also discovered. The excavation procedures included documenting, securing, and collecting all of the findings. Thanks to the technical solutions applied by the Italian Gas Pipeline Company, pipeline construction work has been able to protect the area where the findings were located while continuing as scheduled.
