Roberto Occhiuto has been re-elected President of the Calabria Region, securing a decisive victory over his center-left rival, former INPS president Pasquale Tridico. Backed by the center-right coalition, Occhiuto won by roughly fifteen percentage points, giving Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government a second consecutive regional triumph after the recent win in the Marche. Speaking during the vote count, Occhiuto said: “In a civilized country, no one resigns because of a judicial notice. Too often investigations are used to defeat those who cannot be beaten at the ballot box. Calabrians have shown great maturity and prevented that.” Tridico acknowledged the result, telling reporters he had personally called Occhiuto “to offer my sincere congratulations on his victory.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni hailed the outcome as “a sign of trust in the center-right and in Roberto Occhiuto’s good governance,” while Deputy Premier Antonio Tajani called it “a great success for Forza Italia and for Calabria,” adding that “nothing external influenced this vote.” Voter turnout stood at 43.14%, slightly down from 44.36% in the 2021 election.
