Italy’s textile and fashion industry “is under attack”: this is the warning issued by Confindustria Moda president Luca Sburlati while presenting the fourth edition of the Venice Sustainable Fashion Forum. Sburlati stated that Italian exports experienced a 4% decline in the first half of 2025, while imports increased by 6%, with China recording an 18% increase. An increase, which he attributed to the "hundreds of thousands of packages that arrive in our homes on a daily basis". Sburlati has urged politicians to promptly implement a regulation to prevent the penetration of packages that do not pay duties, customs, and frequently VAT. "We must defend ourselves, but", the president of Confindustria Moda underscored, "we cannot perpetually respond to external inputs. Thus, we are obligated to establish a long-term policy, a national strategic plan for fashion looking ahead to 2035".
