“It’s time to move from a ceasefire to a true peace,” said Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in an interview with Quotidiano Nazionale during the Paris summit on Palestine, gathering European and Arab leaders. Tajani acknowledged that the road ahead will be “long and complex,” but stressed clear priorities: stability, governance, and the reconstruction of Palestine. Italy, he explained, has consistently backed the U.S. peace initiative and intends to play an active role in both security and reconstruction efforts. “Our goal is to contribute not only to safety but to economic and social recovery,” Tajani added, citing plans for infrastructure, healthcare, education, and leadership training. He also proposed involving Italian hospitals operating in Jordan and Egypt to help address Gaza’s dire health emergency. Regarding a possible Italian military presence, Tajani confirmed readiness “if conditions allow.” Italian carabinieri are already active in Jericho and Rafah, training local police forces. Reaffirming Italy’s stance, he concluded: “The only viable outcome is the two-state solution. No one should imagine erasing the other from the map.”
