The Politecnico di Milano celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the Roberto Rocca Project, an international collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) launched in 2005 with the sponsorship of Fondazione Fratelli Agostino ed Enrico Rocca. Dedicated to the memory of Roberto Rocca—mechanical engineer, Politecnico graduate, and MIT PhD who passed away in 2003—the program represents one of the most enduring and significant bridges between Italian and U.S. research. For more than two decades, the initiative has provided financial support to more than 250 faculty and researchers from the Politecnico and MIT, resulting in the funding of 169 fellowships. Bioengineering and mechanical engineering are the most widely represented scientific fields, followed by materials science, energy, electronics, computer science, and, to a lesser extent, architecture and design. The project's influence is evident in the industrial sector, as 50% of its alumni are employed by companies in the research and innovation sectors, both domestically and internationally. Half of the doctoral students continue their academic careers, with many working within the university.
