Tragedy struck overnight in Castel D’Azzano, near Verona, where three members of Italy’s Carabinieri were killed and around fifteen people — including police officers — were injured after an explosion destroyed a two-storey farmhouse. The blast occurred as law enforcement attempted to carry out an eviction. Inside the building were three siblings — two men and a woman — who are believed to have triggered the explosion, though the exact sequence of events is still under investigation. The three have been taken into custody, and two reportedly sustained injuries. The explosion caused the entire structure to collapse. Firefighters were already on the scene but were unable to save the three officers. The victims were identified as Lieutenant Marco Piffari, Carabiniere Davide Bernardello, and Brigadier Valerio Daprà. It was not the first time authorities had tried to clear the property. A previous eviction attempt in October 2024 had been halted after the occupants filled the house with gas. This time, the operation ended in tragedy.
