A Tigre supermarket is opening inside the Vatican. The brand belongs to the Marche-based group Magazzini Gabrielli and will replace the old Spaccio, the shop once dedicated to purchases by Vatican employees. Under past pontiffs, the client base had grown to include a large number of Roman VIPs, who—especially on Saturday mornings—stocked up on all kinds of consumer goods with clear economic advantages, since Italian taxation is not applied within the Vatican walls. The main targets of these purchases were spirits, exempt from excise duties, and tobacco. The new store features internal LED illumination and remote control capabilities to ensure the continuous monitoring of cooling systems and refrigerators. Furthermore, tangible measures for people with special needs are planned, including specialized rates for those over 70, special discounts for large families, and advantages reserved for new parents with children aged 0 to 3. Opening hours: 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday. For Magazzini Gabrielli, this formally represents its first supermarket abroad.
