Beginning October 31, the Pista 500 of the Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin will feature a new site-specific installation by New York-based artist Paul Pfeiffer. The work, ‘Vitruvian Figure (Juventus)’, enriches the open-air itinerary of the Pinacoteca, which since 2022 has transformed the former FIAT test track on the roof of the Lingotto factory into a contemporary art space. With this work, Pfeiffer continues his decades-long research of collective behavior and spectacle, responding to both the specific history of the city and the Lingotto, and to the idea of producing a technological mass-consumption object and symbol of desire. Since the 1990s, Pfeiffer has created an interdisciplinary artistic practice that includes video, photography, sound, sculpture, and installation, investigating mass events such as sporting events, religious celebrations, concerts, and television game shows. In his work, he emphasizes the tension between the individual and the public, and ‘Vitruvian Figure (Juventus)’ fits into this journey by providing an intervention that might stimulate the audience on an emotional and intellectual level.
