Fear and shock in Campo Ascolano, near Pomezia, after two powerful explosions destroyed the cars of investigative journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, the host of Report, and his daughter.
Ranucci revealed the incident himself on social media, writing that “two explosive devices destroyed our cars parked in front of the house. The blasts were so strong they shook the entire neighborhood.”
Fortunately, there were no injuries. Carabinieri, Digos officers and firefighters quickly secured the area. Preliminary findings suggest a homemade bomb containing roughly one kilogram of explosives, placed between the property gate and one of the vehicles. The shockwave damaged a second car and part of a nearby house.
In an official statement, Report confirmed the details, noting that “the explosion was powerful enough to kill anyone nearby.” Bomb disposal experts are analyzing residue to determine the composition and trigger mechanism, while investigators are reviewing footage from nearby traffic cameras.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi condemned the attack: “This cowardly act is not only an assault on Ranucci but on press freedom and the core values of our democracy.” He ordered maximum security protection for the journalist.
The case is now under investigation by Rome’s Anti-Mafia District Prosecutor’s Office, led by prosecutor Carlo Villani and deputy chief Ilaria Calò, on charges of damage aggravated by a mafia-related motive. (Photo ArezzoTV)
