Consob has directed the closure of three websites that are alleged to have been abusively promoting investment services and crypto-assets by employing the faces and voices of prominent politicians to attract users. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, and Members of Parliament (MPs) Elly Schlein and Carlo Calenda are among the individuals involved, despite their complete lack of involvement in the matter. Since the Growth Decree went into effect in 2019, the Authority has been able to restrict the websites of unlawful financial intermediaries, bringing the total number of blocked portals to 1,443. The new regulations also improve the ability to take action against platforms that offer crypto-assets without authorization. Consob has issued a warning to investors, asking them to be extremely cautious before investing. Precautions that are essential for safeguarding one's capital include verifying the operator's authorization and consulting the prospectus or white paper for financial products and crypto-assets.
