The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday evening at the Washington Hilton, marking a half-century of dedication to promoting Italian culture and improving US-Italian relations. Over 2,500 guests attended the gala, which celebrated friendship and common values between two countries. "This golden anniversary underscores the vital importance of the relationship between the United States and Italy, as well as the role of NIAF as a cultural bridge between our nations—today stronger than ever", stated Robert Allegrini, President and CEO of the Foundation. Guests of honor included Giorgio Mulè, Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies; Daniela Santanchè, Minister of Tourism; Luca Ciriani, Minister for Relations with Parliament; Vannia Gava, Deputy Minister of the Environment and Energy Security; and a large number of Italian and European Parliament members. Marco Peronaci, Italy's ambassador to the United States, was also in attendance, demonstrating the strength of the bilateral connection. The event honored the Lazio Region, the evening's star, by celebrating its cultural history, artistic excellence, and economic vibrancy as a representation of Italy's global influence. Francesco Rocca, President of the Region, emphasized his commitment to enhancing cultural and institutional ties with the United States. Additionally, the gala featured the presentation of the traditional NIAF Dea Roma Awards, which are presented to individuals who exemplify Italian excellence on a global scale. Andrea Bocelli, renowned tenor, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in Entertainment for his extraordinary career. He captivated the audience with a special performance of three songs. The Global Business Leader Award was given to John Elkann, CEO of Exor and Chairman of Ferrari and Stellantis, for his efforts to promote Italian entrepreneurial excellence abroad. Additionally, the following individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions: Flavio Cattaneo (Enel Group) for Managerial Leadership; Roberto Cingolani (Leonardo S.p.A.) for Technology in Defense and Security; Stefano Antonio Donnarumma (FS Italiane Group) for Engineering Excellence and Sustainable Mobility; Kamel Ghribi (San Donato Group) for Innovation in Healthcare and Research; Doug Leone (Sequoia Capital) for International Business and Impact on Innovation; and Katia Passerini, Dean of Gonzaga University, for Academic Excellence. The evening featured special moments, including a tribute from Lega Serie A with football legend Alessandro Del Piero, the announcement of the NIAF/De Laurentiis Film Prize winner, and the unveiling of a commemorative stamp dedicated to the Foundation’s 50th anniversary. Sebastian Maniscalco, an Italian-American comedian, sent a video tribute that brought warmth and comedy to the celebration. A percentage of the evening's proceeds will benefit NIAF's educational and cultural activities, ensuring that the organization's mission continues for future generations.
