Around 180 Napoli supporters were detained in Eindhoven on Tuesday night, ahead of their team’s Champions League clash against PSV.
Police initially reported that the arrests followed “disorderly conduct” in the city center but later clarified that the action had been preventive, not a response to actual clashes with rival fans or officers.
According to a police spokesperson, the group had gathered in the Fuutlaan area, described as “large and in a charged atmosphere.” Officers said they repeatedly asked the fans to leave the city center, but their orders were ignored.
As a result, about 180 supporters were taken into custody for violating local public assembly regulations and transported by bus to the Mathildelaan police station for questioning. Some reportedly did not have tickets for the match.
Earlier in the day, Eindhoven’s mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem had designated parts of the city as a high-risk security zone, allowing authorities to carry out preventive searches and detentions in the area.
