The Government has approved the new Budget Law in the Council of Ministers. Healthcare is a priority: the law authorizes an increase of €2.4 billion in the National Health Fund for 2026, in addition to the amount already allocated for the same year in the 2025 Budget Law. This will result in a total funding of €142.9 billion for 2026, which is more than €6.3 billion higher than in 2025. The National Health Service revival plan focuses on three major goals: recruiting additional personnel, lowering medical appointment wait times, and improving prevention. The funds will be used to hire nearly 6,000 nurses and 1,000 doctors, raise employee salaries, and subsidize cancer screenings and medical services in pharmacies. The budget also allocates €350 million for pharmaceuticals to cover the costs of novel therapies and €280 million for medical devices to alleviate litigation with supplier companies.
