"The other day, talking to my boyfriend Michael, I told him that of all the things I've learned, the strongest is the Italian pride that has been passed on to me". With these words, Lady Gaga greeted the Italian audience during her concert at the Unipol Forum, her first at the Milanese arena in seven years, before performing the song “Joanne", a single from her 2016 album of the same name. The Italo-American pop star welcomed her fans with Voices of Lady Gaga, a collection of fan messages projected on a giant screen, followed by a video of Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta writing on parchment. At the end of the video, the song "Bloody Mary" sets off Act I of the Mayhem Ball, which expands over three additional Acts, like a theatrical opera, and covers every facet of the pop icon's discography. From legendary classics like Poker Face, Paparazzi, and Just Dance to her most recent successes, like "Die with a Smile" and "Abracadabra", not to mention the ever-present LGBTQI+ anthem "Born This Way". More than a concert, it's an opera-style performance with tone, scenography, and epic scale in which the artist shares her professional and personal journey through light and dark. Among the audience were prominent figures of the Italian music and fashion scenes, including singer-songwriters Marco Mengoni and Mahmood, and designer Donatella Versace — a close friend of the artist: “Donatella has always been by my side, even in the hardest moments — especially when everyone else left. Donatella is special, she’s taught me so much", Lady Gaga said from the stage.
