Bologna is once again ready to host the Davis Cup, this time welcoming the Final Eight from November 18 to 23 — but Jannik Sinner will not be present. Filippo Volandri, Team Italy's Captain, has officially announced the squad for the Italian team that will aim at winning a third consecutive world title, after the back-to-back victories in Málaga in the last two editions. The South Tyrolean, who is now ranked second in the world, is not among the players called up, which includes Lorenzo Musetti, Flavio Cobolli, Matteo Berrettini, Simone Bolelli, and Andrea Vavassori. In any event, according to ITF rules, up to three players can be changed until the day before the Final Eight matches begin, which is Monday, November 17th. Volandri states, “Jannik Sinner has not made himself available for 2025. The Davis Cup is and will always be his home, and I am confident that Jannik will soon rejoin the team. In the meanwhile, I can rely on a group that is willing to fight and offer all for the Italian national team. Our recent success with our Italian players is based on teamwork and mutual trust. A trust built on hard labor and everyone's constant availability to the other. As a result, we are confident that the group will arrive in Bologna with even greater drive to achieve a historic goal, as a gift to the team and our fans". Federal President Angelo Binaghi said, "We understand and respect Jannik's decision, which is nevertheless very sad for us and comes at the end of a long and intense season in which he once again displayed his incredible role model for the entire Italian tennis movement. For him—and for all of us—the Davis Cup is a sign of pride and belonging, and we are confident that he will soon return to wear the blue jersey with the same passion and dedication as before. At the same time, I'd want to highlight our deep trust in the group led by Filippo Volandri: a robust, cohesive team capable of converting any challenge into additional drive. Our players have previously proved their ability to achieve remarkable goals together, and I am certain that this time they will be able to honor Italy's colors in the best way possible".
