Speaking to Parliament ahead of the European Council, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized her government’s achievements: “The majority of Italians recognize serious work, integrity, and results. As long as they support us, we will continue with our heads held high.” Meloni highlighted Italy’s political stability over the past three years and the country’s strengthened international standing, endorsed by the IMF and global rating agencies. She pointed to Italy’s role in recent developments in the Middle East as a concrete and positive contribution. Regarding Ukraine, the Prime Minister confirmed that Italy will not deploy troops, while advocating for a fair peace and targeted sanctions on Russia. On defense, she announced €14.9 billion in funding through the Safe program, reinforcing both NATO’s eastern flank and southern Europe. On climate and energy, Meloni stressed technological neutrality: “Electrification alone cannot shape the future of transportation. Supporting alternative fuels for internal combustion engines is essential to preserving Italy’s automotive and gas sectors.”
