93% of Italian businesses claim that laws, regulations, and bureaucratic procedures have a negative influence on their operations, with over half (48%) seeing a considerable increase in direct and indirect costs. This is the conclusion of a report prepared in partnership with the Luiss Business School, which included a representative sample of 650 companies operating in Italy in the manufacturing, construction, trade, tourism, and services sectors, with a higher proportion of micro-enterprises (322). The excess of laws and regulations burdens public procedures, making them complex, slow, and unclear, with a particular negative impact on smaller enterprises, which have less economic sustainability. According to the study, 43% of Italian businesses suffer wasted time and entrepreneurial discouragement, while 18% express a lesser propensity to invest. The research demonstrates the substantial proportion of companies (40%) that claim that "the complexity of the rules is also the fault of companies operating in the grey area". Additionally, 20% complain about unfair competition, 15% about lengthy procedures, and 4% about unpredictable inspections.
