Half of Italians support the construction of next-generation nuclear power facilities, with 17% strongly in favor and 31% moderately supportive. 15% of those polled are somewhat opposed, and those who fully disagree are substantially fewer than in the past: 14%, about half the percentage who stated they were completely opposed in a similar survey of the same sample in 2024, when 24% of Italians opposed nuclear power outright. However, 23% of Italians remain doubtful. Furthermore, more than a quarter of Italians are inclined to embrace nuclear energy if compensation is provided in their community. In fact, 26% of respondents who were either undecided or opposed to the construction of a nuclear power plant in their municipality claimed that they would be more inclined to accept it if the prospective compensation were considered. The most crucial incentive, with 75% of respondents prepared to change their opinions, was ten years of free energy bills for homeowners in the area where the plant would be built. In second and third place, tied and still chosen by about two-thirds of the sample, are the securing of rivers, streams, and other potentially at-risk environmental areas, as well as the improvement of the environment through the creation of new parks, green areas, and reforestation initiatives, to which 74% of the sample among those opposed and undecided are sensitive.
