Italy has taken a major step forward in its journey toward sustainable mobility. Along the A5 motorway connecting Quincinetto and Aosta, Valle d’Aosta has inaugurated the nation’s first highway service area designed exclusively for electric vehicles. Located within the “Les Iles de Brissogne Sud” parking area, the site was developed through a partnership between Ionity and the Autostrade Valdostane company, and stands as a model for future highway infrastructure. Covering an area of 5,500 square meters, the station features 27 parking bays equipped with seven state-of-the-art charging points. Six of these chargers deliver up to 350 kW of power, significantly reducing waiting times, while one additional unit offers 50 kW. Two spaces are designed for heavy-duty vehicles, signaling a growing focus on bringing freight and commercial transport into the electric transition. The installation of six more chargers is already planned, reflecting the rapid rise in demand as more EVs take to Italian roads. Italy’s electric vehicle market continues to grow steadily. According to Motus-E data updated to September 30, 2025, there are 333,658 fully electric vehicles registered nationwide. During the first nine months of 2025, 60,870 new EVs were registered—an increase of 28.9% compared with the same period in 2024.
