Valeria Golino, discovered at 18 by director Lina Wertmüller, directed by some of the most important Italian and international directors, and awarded the Coppa Volpi twice at the Venice Film Festival, most recently in 2015 for her film "Per amor vostro", turned 60 on October 22nd, the same day she premiered at the Rome Film Fest in "Breve storia d'amore". Born in Naples in 1965, she began as a model for jeans and swimwear before acting in Lina Wertmüller’s "Scherzo del destino in agguato dietro l’angolo come un brigante da strada" (A Joke of Destiny, 1983) and "Sotto... sotto... strapazzato da anomala passione" (Softly, Softly, 1984). Her first main role occurred in 1985 with Peter Del Monte's "Little Fires", and the following year she won her first Coppa Volpi for Citto Maselli's "Storia d'amore." In 1988, Valeria Golino relocated to Los Angeles. That year, she appeared in "Rain Man" with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise, and she also participated in eight months of auditions for the main role, Vivian, in "Pretty Woman," which ultimately went to Julia Roberts. During her time in America, she appeared in 18 films, including the hugely successful "Hot Shots!" (1991), "Four Rooms" (1995), and John Carpenter's "Escape from L.A." (1996). She debuted as a director in 2010 with the short "Armandino e il MADRE", followed by "Honey" (2013) and "Euphoria" (2018). In 2024, she directed her first TV series, The Art of Joy.
